In 2012, I was scrolling through Craigslist looking for a job when I found a listing that said “PAID REMOTE INTERNSHIP: SOCIAL MEDIA PUBLICIST”
I sent them an application detailing my unofficial history in the social media world. In middle school, I was the one my peers would ask for animated icons on AIM. I was your go-to-gal for a “pimped out” MySpace layout. I got the internship and it course corrected my entire trajectory.
I was about to go to school to become a therapist, but this ad I found on Craigslist changed everything. I decided to explore social media for my Master's thesis, and was recognized for being the only one in my program to apply psychology to a non-clinical setting.
After graduating in 2013, I accepted a job from the social media company I was an intern for. I decided to pursue a road of research remote and work towards a Ph.D while traveling avidly.
A social media project with the National Institutes of Health led to my current position at Scripps Research. I work remote as I manage social media for the Digital Trials Center, a lab where all studies are also remote. This means that anyone, anywhere can participate. Some of the topics we are studying are maternal health, precision nutrition, sleep, and infectious diseases.
